Thanks to advancements in the medical field, a person can donate a kidney, lobe of a lung, portion of their liver, pancreas or intestine while living. In 2012, there were nearly 5,400 living donors in the United States. Interestingly, one in four of these donors isn’t biologically related to the recipient.
