In Nebraska in 2016, there were:

  • 70 Organ Donors
  • 203 Organ Transplants
  • 159 Cornea Donors
  • 194 Tissue Donors

In 2016, 35 Nebraskans died waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant.

Today, nearly 450 people in Nebraska are currently waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant.

The Nebraska State Donor Registry is nearing registrants. 

General Statistics:

  • On average, a single donor can save or heal the lives of over 100 people.
  • 95% of Americans are in favor of being an organ donor but only 56% are registered.
  • There are more than 120,000 people waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant nationwide with another person added every 10 minutes.
  • 8,000 deaths occur every year in the U.S. because organs are not donated in time, an average of 22 people each day.
  • Last year in the U.S., approximately 16,000 deceased donors made possible nearly 33,500 organ transplants. In addition, there were nearly 8,000 transplants from living donors.
  • Each year, approximately 30,000 tissue donors result in nearly 1,000,000 tissue transplants in the U.S., saving and healing lives.
  • More than 20,000 transplants occurred among recipients age 50 or older in 2016.
  • 1 out of 3 deceased donors is over the age of 50.
  • More than 135 million people, approximately 51 percent of the U.S. adult population, are registered as organ, eye and tissue donors.
